Who We Are
At The Proper Pointer Co., we’ve built our reputation on a simple promise: raising and caring for dogs as if they were our own. Our focus is on breeding healthy, well-balanced German Shorthaired Pointers, offering thoughtful training programs, and providing a safe, welcoming place for dogs to board. What sets us apart is the combination of passion and professionalism— we pair years of hands-on experience with a genuine love for the breed, creating an environment where dogs thrive and families feel supported. From the way we socialize our puppies to the personalized attention we give every dog in our care, our goal is to create lasting bonds between people and their dogs while building a community that shares our values.
At The Proper Pointer Co., our story begins with two extraordinary dogs—Boone and Copper. They were our first German Shorthaired Pointers and quickly became the heart of our family. Intelligent, affectionate, and incredible bird dogs, Boone and Copper was everything we dreamed of and more. What started as a love for their beauty and spirit soon grew into a lifelong dedication to the breed itself. Their influence continues to shape our mission today: to raise healthy, balanced, and loving German Shorthaired Pointers that enrich both home and field life.
The Proper Pointer Co. is located in the Upstate of South Carolina, in the small town of Six Mile, just west of Greenville and north of Clemson. On our 20+ acre property, our dogs enjoy the freedom to run, explore, and chase anything that takes flight. Though we are a small, family-based operation, we take great pride in our program’s quality, integrity, and attention to detail.
We are currently in the process of building a brand new kennel and training facility, which will include new and improved whelping rooms. This will provide each puppy to be whelped and raised in a temperature-controlled nursery where they receive individualized care, early neurological stimulation, and structured socialization. Our focus is on producing puppies with sound temperaments, strong genetics, and the hallmark characteristics that make GSPs such remarkable companions.
Our Mission
The Proper Pointer Co. mission is to raise, train, and care for dogs with excellence and integrity. We are committed to breeding healthy and capable companions, providing premium boarding that feels like home, and shaping young puppies with obedience foundations that last a lifetime. With every dog in our care, we aim to set the standard for responsible breeding, premium boarding, and positive training so that dogs and their families can thrive together. As well as to have all aspects of our business Done Properly—because your best friend deserves nothing less.
At the heart of our breeding program are two exceptional males—Boone, whose pedigree includes immediate AKC Champions, and Chief, a guide dog with lineage from prestigious Sharp Shooter Man in Black and Sharp Shooter Ace in the Hole. Both consistently produce outstanding puppies known for their intelligence, drive, and affectionate nature.
Beyond breeding, we’re committed to providing complete care for dogs and their families. Through our obedience training programs and boarding services, we extend the same structured, loving environment to every dog that comes through our doors.
